Lynn University Soccer vs Palm Beach Atlantic October 7, 2006 1pm Boca Raton, Florida : BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University's men's soccer team won one for the skipper on Saturday, defeating Palm Beach Atlantic 5-2 to give head coach Shaun Pendleton his 300th career victory. The Fighting Knights showed no ill effects from their loss earlier in the week as Dwight Barnett and William Young each netted two goals. Lynn improves to 10-1 on the season, marking the 21st consecutive year with double-digit victories. "I'm excited to reach it and get it out of the way," said Pendleton who is 300-35-11 (.883) in his career and holds the top winning percentage in NCAA Division II history. "It's a great accomplishment and something I'm very proud of. To get it at home was even more special. But the bigger picture is that we won an important game and at 10-1 we are closer to getting to our ultimate goal, a national title." Lynn opened the scoring just 2:32 into the game. Barnett and Kenneth Viquez used a nice give and go combination to free up space on the back line. Barnett then chipped a cross over the keeper where Young put home the first goal of the match. Less than four minutes later Viquez set up another goal. The senior midfielder drove a low cross from the right side across the six-yard box. Barnett one-timed the shot past the keeper for his team leading sixth goal. Viquez finally found back of the net in the 20th minute. Barnett heeled a pass inside the penalty box where Viquez juked the keeper and sent in a low shot on the open net to give Lynn a 3-0 lead. Barnett capped the first half scoring in the 30th minute when he collected a long through ball by Jean Alexandre and beat the keeper to the near post. The Fighting Knights, though, made some personnel changes at the start of the second half which didn't quite pan out. The defense lost the shutout in the 51st minute off an own goal. Then in the 58th minute Lynn couldn't clear the ball out of traffic and Cheyne Roberts scored from the top of the box, cutting the lead to 4-2. Young though squashed any thoughts of a comeback in the 67th minute. Leon Jackson headed a ball inside the six-yard box and Young out-muscled the Sailfish defense and tapped in the ball for his third goal of the year. LU's defense held PBA (5-8-2) to only one shot in the first half and four for the game.

Lynn University Soccer vs. New York Tech, September 18, 2005, 4pm, Boca Raton, Florida : BOCA RATON, Fla. Lynn Universitys mens soccer team defeated its second ranked opponent in three games, riding Lee Paul Scroggins to a 3-0 victory against no. 14 New York Tech on Sunday afternoon. Scroggins scored two goals, including the game-winner, for his second consecutive multi-goal game and third this season. The Knights defensive unit of Leon Jackson, Nano Short, Courtney Rimmer and Lee Porter held the Bears to just one shot on goal. LU improves to 5-0-0 overall. Lee Paul [Scroggins] had a great day and he is one of those players that you want to take into big games and expect to perform well. Scroggins opened up the Knights attack just six minutes into the game. Carl Wallace tracked down a long cross near the right corner and sent a nice cross to the far post. Chris Knox made a one-touch pass to the top of the box where the Bears (5-2-0) failed to account for the trailing shooter. The junior midfielder lined up his shot and scored from just outside the 18-yard box to give LU a 1-0 lead. On an identical play 10 minutes later, Kenneth Viquez brought down a cross from the right corner, juked his man and dropped a pass to the top of the box. Again, NYIT failed to cover the trailing Jean Alexander as the freshman fired a shot to right corner of the net to put the Knights up 2-0. A demoralized New York Tech team saw its defense break down one final time as the first half wound down. Scroggins broke free on a Richard Legg corner kick and headed the ball past the keeper at the near post, securing the Knights victory. The Blue and White defense played a spectacular game, holding NYIT to only one shot on goal.

NCAA Quarter Final National Championship Event: Lynn University Soccer vs Lander University 19 November 2005, 12pm Boca Raton, Florida : Lynn University Hosting NCAA Men’s Soccer Quarterfinals. BOCA RATON, Fla. – Two goals in the first 15 minutes set the tone for a long day as Lynn University’s men’s soccer team overpowered Lander University 8-0 in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon. Seven different members of the Blue and White scored while Lee Paul Scroggins tied an NCAA record for goals in a tournament with six. Lander’s cinderella season concludes with the worst loss in its post-season history. Lynn will face the winner of the Cal-State Dominguez Hills/Fort Lewis match in Wichita Falls, Texas. We’ve had a difficult season with hurricanes and injuries and these boys have gone through a lot, said head coach Shaun Pendleton, who led Lynn to the 2003 NCAA Division II National Championship. But once we have our main squad put together, we’re a pretty good team. Today we did a good job of attacking the net, we put a zero on the board and we never let up. As coaches we’ve prepared properly and the players have done their job. We’re just very thankful to represent Lynn University and the Sunshine State Conference in the final four. Lynn outshot Lander 27-4 and won the corner kick battle 8-4. Kevin Street and Liam Bull combined on the Knights seventh shutout of the season, also notching three saves. Daum recorded one save in the first half while Peck notched seven in the second half.

Lynn University Womens Soccer vs Carson Newman, Boca Raton, FL, October 23, 2007 12pm : BOCA RATON, Fla. – A comeback bid by the Lynn University women’s soccer team fell short as the Fighting Knights dropped a close contest 2-1 to No. 15 Carson-Newman. Brittany Evernden scored her fourth goal of the season while establishing a new career mark for points with nine. Lynn evens its record at 8-8 overall. “Our girls played a great game,” said head coach Rocky Orezzoli, “unfortunately the ball didn’t bounce our way today. I thought we did a good job of combining on our pass and finding the open player. Hopefully we can carry this type of performance into our next game.” Two defensive lapses on corner kicks contributed to both Carson-Newman first-half goals. An unmarked Julie Nelson easily headed in a ball at the back post to put the Lady Eagles up 1-0 in the 15th minute while a failed clearance by the Fighting Knights defense off the second corner was shot inside the left post by Kellie Gustin in the 31st minute. Lynn cut the lead to 2-1 in the 36th minute when Shea Kinzer was whistled for a hand ball inside the box. Evernden struck a clean shot off the penalty kick to the lower right corner of the net for the score just before keeper Nysaa Griffin could get a hand on it. The Blue and White smelt upset in the second half, outplaying the Lady Eagles across the board. Lynn missed on several opportunities, though, including an open net chance by Sarah Mendelsberg in the 80th minute. The sophomore forward collected a pass just inside the box and was immediately defended by Nelson and keeper Melissa Terrell. Mendelsberg spun around both defenders, giving herself a look at the open net, but pushed her shot just left of the post. Despite the two gaffes on corner kicks, Lynn’s defense played outstanding against Carson-Newman’s three potent offensive players. Nikki Brennan (11 goals) and Morgan Gruenenfielder (10 goals) combined to take one shot while playmaker Zarmena Kasparites (11 assists) did not register an assist for just the second time in six games. For the game, LU outshot Carson-Newman 11-9 but fell behind in corner kicks 6-3. Natalie Feller registered two saves on the afternoon while Nyssa Griffin and Melissa Terrell combined for five stops. Lynn returns to action Friday, October 26 at 7 p.m. when it travels to face Rollins College. Fans can watch both the men’s and women’s soccer games live at www.RollinsSports.tv for a nominal fee of $5.95 in addition to Lynn’s free coverage through live audio and live stats at www.lynn.edu/athletics.

Lynn University Womens Soccer vs Saint Leo, Boca Raton, FL, October 7, 2006, 3pm : BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn University women's soccer team's two-game winning streak was snapped by a 2-0 loss to #25 Saint Leo on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights drop to 6-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo capitalized when they had opportunities and we did not," said head coach Rocky Orezzoli. "I give them credit, their defense did a great job of keeping us from shooting. I thought our defense did a good job, except where they had two minor breakdowns that ended up being goals. This was a tough one to lose but it doesn't get any easier with a game against Nova Southeastern and Eckerd next week." A back and forth contest opened up for Saint Leo (9-2-1, 4-2) in the 24th minute. Hannah Beard beat Megan Walsh on back line and sent a low cross through the Knights defense. Bridget Godwin one-time the pass past Jennifer Shropshire to give SLU a 1-0 lead. Beard tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the year with a nifty set by Jennifer O'Connor. The two connected on a give a go outside the 18-yard box where O'Connor finally crossed to the top of the 18-yard box. Beard one-touched the pass and fired a low shot to the far post to put the Lions up for good. Lynn was outshot 15-5 and surrendered 11 corner kicks in the match. Shropshire managed three saves before giving way to Natalie Feller with 23 minutes remaining. Lauren Hudson stopped three shots for the Lions.

Lynn University Soccer vs Barry University November 6, 2005, Boca Raton, Florida, 1:00 pm : BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University womens soccer team lost an emotional contest to Barry University 1-0 in overtime on the Fighting Knights senior day. Jennifer Shropshire saved a career-high 15 shots as the Blue and White said goodbye to seven seniors. Lynn closes out the season 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. Lynn was down to 14 players but we had a simple game plan that our players stuck to well, said head coach Rocky Orezzoli. We did a good job of keeping their big time chances to a minimum, Jen Shropshire played a great game and we countered and created chances of our own. I give credit to Barry to sticking it out and getting the finish but I also have to give credit to our kids for playing extremely hard and giving themselves chances to pull out the win. Shropshire terrorized the Bucs (13-2-1, 7-1-0) all second half, recording 10 saves and holding the SSCs second leading offense to zero goals. But just two and a half minutes into overtime, Emelie Karlsson collected a pass from Ulla Matikainen outside the 18-yard box, dribbled through the Knights defense and slipped her shot just under Shropshire for the game-winning goal. Nine different Knights players set personal career records this season while Shropshire’s 61 saves this season is the fifth most in program history.

Lynn University Soccer vs Eckerd College October 2, 2005, 1pm, Boca Raton, Florida : BOCA RATON, Fla. – Two second half goals propelled Lynn University’s women’s soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory against Eckerd College on Sunday afternoon. Bridget Penta scored her first career game-winning goal while freshman keeper Jennifer Shropshire notched a shutout in her first career start. The win puts the Fighting Knights at .500 for the first time since September 16 as the team improves to 6-6-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. Everything is for the conference right now. We’ve got to continue to play good soccer. We’re improving and everyone’s playing with more confidence which is important for the stretch run. Opening the second half tied at 0-0, the Fighting Knights came out firing with a couple of quick shots on goal. Just two and a half minutes into the half, Penta collected an errant pass at midfield and made a nice run up the center of the Triton’s territory. The New York native faked right, cut left and fired a left-footed shot from the top of the 18-yard box to the left side of the net to put LU up 1-0. Rachel Andreozzi put the game out of reach in the 69th minute of play. The senior stopper recognized the Tritons were slow to get into formation on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box and got off a quick shot to the left post. Eckerd keeper Caitlin McClure was also slow on her reaction of the shot as she saw the ball sail past her into the left corner.
